The British have given us many great things, and, of course, Shakespeare in Stratford Upon Avon is but one. Another is Abbot Ale.

Enjoy a pint in a building built in the 1400's. Quite the experience!

Standard English menu with the exact same menu as the pub across the way. Server seemed slightly overwhelmed, but was friendly and tried her best. Not the best pub in Stratford, but not bad and was nice and cool on a hot summer night.

Awesome, historic bar in Shakespeare's home town. Can't remember the name of the bartender, but he was a solid, friendly guy. The customers were diverse, quirky and conversational and one particular old flirt sang me a raunchy song about a girl named "Abigail." All in all, one of many unforgettable experiences from my trip to the UK--and it was fun giving into the idea that I may have been having a pint in the same spot the bard once did.

Great Pub!  Did not eat but found it to be a friendly atmosphere, with excellent service!

Ate here today for lunch - had a Ham with Mature Cheddar sandwich and a side of rosemary fries.  Food was decent, nothing to really rave about.

Also the service was lackluster.  No one came to take our order until we went up to the bar to ask whether we needed to order from the bar ....  we were told we did not and there was a server. They came to the table a few minutes later and took the order.

In all honesty, the only reason to come here is for the atmosphere.  It is apparently the oldest Pub in Stratford-Upon-Avon and it definitely has that feel which is an attractive quality.

So would I recommend coming here?  Yes, once to check it out.   Would I come here as a regular - not to eat.  Maybe it's a fun place to hang for drinks at night.
